UBP REP WRAP UP
March, 2008Reading Show by Gary Wessner
The second annual Greater Reading Sport Travel & Outdoor Show was held January 17 to 20. The UBP was invited back this year to provide entertainment for the children and adults. We had our balloon and junior 3D shoot, and we added a large 3D range that was run by the Reading Archery Club. Attendance was down some this year, but we still did well. We gained 19 new members and renewed 17 more. Like last year, the kids really enjoyed the balloon shoot and hit a few shot several
times. I would like to thank Fran Devlin, Dave O’Neal, Phil Baney, Brian Fidler, Lee Kitson, Dawn
Briant, Debbie Wessner, Bob Schwalm, Casey Stetler, Todd Gehringer, Gene Zimmerman, Chuck Trate, Helen Olivia, Wes Brown, and the rest of the folks from the Reading Archery Club for all their help during the show. We will be at the show next year providing everything we had this year, so bring the family and your bows and come out and have some fun!
UBP REP WRAP UP
November, 2007Souderton Harleysville Fish, Game, & Forestry Association, UBP Benefit Shoot
By Fran Devlin, Region 1 DirectorA UBP benefit shoot was held at the Souderton Harleysville F, G, & F, Assoc. on Sunday September 23. We had a beautiful first day of fall shoot. The weather was absolutely perfect for a preseason final tune-up. UBP Vice President Buck Appel, Region 1 Director Fran Devlin along with County Reps Mike Iannetta, Chris Corrado, and Dave Kimble, members Dan Smoker and Mike Parente, all dedicated members, gave the best part of their weekend to make this benefit a big success for the UBP. The benefit raised $1360 for the UBP and we signed on 23 new members and renewed 11 other members. Ryan Vickers, a member of the Team Extreme Pro Staff, won the $500.00 Covelens Taxidermy gift certificate, Bucks County Rep Dave Kimble won a $50.00 gift certificate to Vollmer Taxidermy, Member Ron Pauley won a great tree stand and several other prizes were awarded to bowhunters in attendance.
If you missed this benefit shoot, keep an eye out for next year’s event. The course is a well laid out bowhunter course. It is a challenging, yet confidence building course just before the season opener. The club grounds are absolutely beautiful. If you have never been there, it is a mix of ridges and flat land with a large lake right in the middle of the property. The club owns over 200 acres in western Montgomery County, and they turn over their entire facility to the UBP for this event.
Myself, as well as all the UBP members who helped at this benefit and the entire executive board, want to thank Souderton Harleysville for their continuing support of the UBP. We look forward to a long lasting and beneficial relationship with this fine organization.Report from Warren County
Archers Gather for I.B.O. Shoot
By Life Member John Bevevino, County RepresentativeThe First Annual International Bowhunting Organization Rendezvous was held at the Warren County Fair Grounds near Pittsfield, PA on September 14, 15 and 16. The event was staged to be a non-competitive campout and “fun” shoot with several courses and 120 targets. IBO President Ken Watkins, said, “Although the event didn’t draw a huge crowd, the rendezvous was considered an important first step by its organizers.” He expects word of mouth to bring many more to future events in Warren County.
Over 100 archers attended, but the rain and cold weather probably helped keep more shooters away. The plan next year is to do more advertising locally and in New York and Ohio. We did get to meet some UBP members from as far away as Johnstown and Pittsburgh however.
I want to thank Member Frank Empson from Potter County who covered the booth for me on Friday afternoon, plus Art Keefer, Kathy Keefer and Zoey from Clarion County for helping on Saturday. We had eight new members sign up and sold several shirts, hats and patches. Event organizer, Jim Decker, expressed his thanks to the UBP for participating.

September, 2007Gallitzin Sportsmen’s Association, July 15 - Art Keefer
I’d like to thank UBP member and the guy in charge of the 3-D archery shoots at Gallitzin, Dan Miller, for allowing Kathy, our dog Zoey and I to camp out over night at the club. It was much easier than making the two hour ride to get there by 7 AM. If you’ve never been to the Gallitzin club, it’s a beautiful spot in a nice little community. Dan and his group, including UBP members Jeff Freidhof and Jeff Davis (among others) set up another great course. The weather held out long enough on Sunday for everyone to shoot before any rain came.
Thanks also go out to the Region 8 Director and Life Member Dave Gallardy and Cambria County Representative and Life Member Bob Buterbaugh for setting up and running the UBP table. Dave has been committed to helping us for a long time, and in recent years so has Bob. We were able to get six renewals along with a new member, and we made over $170 in merchandise sales. It was also a nice surprise to see that Life Member Wayne Sobetsky and his son, Junior Member John, made the three hour trip just to attend the event.
There were only around 55 paying shooters, but the club was able to make a very nice donation to the UBP. It should be noted that Gallitzin pays their yearly dues in addition to holding a benefit shoot, so that’s a nice bonus for the UBP.
It was a pleasure to relieve Dave and Bob long enough to give them a chance to participate in the shoot. It’s always fun to meet and talk to members and see what’s going on around the state. I had some interesting conversations with members Bob Freidhof and Scott Davis, plus they bought stuff.
We’re looking forward to making Gallitzin again next year and perhaps some of you could join us camping out overnight.Region 3 - Bob Forba
The Region 3 organizational meeting was held on June 10 at 1:00 pm at Decker’s Bows & More. The meeting was attended by Keith Hazbit, Paul Zbegner, Carl Mozeleski, Jim Sanders, Bill Feduchak, Keith Ganser, Seth Hendershot, Brad Millard, Jen Sager, Mike Lamade, Bob Forba and Perry Hartman. Among items discussed were how to increase membership, membership involvement, current and future projects within the region, and getting a county rep(s) in each area. The meeting lasted approximately two hours, and overall I was pleased with the involvement of those in attendance. A drawing was held and door prizes were given out. Also, discounts were given on memberships/merchandise, three new members were signed up and some merchandise was sold. Thanks to Gerry Decker who provided the time and space for the meeting.
Falls Township - Bill Vollmerding - Bucks County Rep
Falls Township Rifle & Pistol Association held its first ever UBP benefit shoot on Sunday August 5. Dave Kimble, a Falls member and Bucks County rep, set up the shoot with Bill Vollmerding assisting with the UBP duties for the shoot. Other Bucks County reps helping out were Hank Barella, Jamie Dickie and Brian Sked. The shoot netted over $900 for the United Bowhunters of Pa, which included 14 new members and two renewals. Sixty five archers shot through the 3D course during the day. The course and the club are top notch and in great shape thanks to Falls Archery Chairman Pete Oliveri and the rest of the gang at Falls. Falls Township Rifle & Pistol Association has been a UBP sponsor for many years. A great way to thank the club for its devotion to the UBP would be to attend a shoot at Falls. They hold shoots at the club every first Sunday of the month, and don’t forget to say thanks while you’re there.

July, 2007POPE AND YOUNG CONVENTION
By Jody MaddockWell, I really did try to get you to attend the first ever in the east Pope and Young Convention. It was great fun and very positive for bowhunting locally and nationally. If you attended, you know what I mean. I can tell you with certainty that the Pope and Young club is both grateful and complimentary for all the effort the UBP put into making it a great event. This was sent to President Waldron from a grateful Pope and Young regular member and really sums it all up:
Wes: My name is Charlie Rehor, Regular Member, P&Y Club from Massachusetts. As a fellow "Easterner" I am very proud of the job you and your entire organization did at the convention. I have bow hunted Pennsylvania every year for the past 25 years. We "coastal easterners" are known to be a bit liberal as a group, but I assure you there are bow hunters that care here as well, but Pennsylvania was truly the best spot in the East to have the convention!
Again my hats off to a fine organization, you did us proud!!!!! Charlie Rehor
On Thursday evening the UBP hosted Pennsylvania legislators at a reception prior to the convention opening ceremonies. The reception was a great success and should lay the foundation to further our legislative goals. Certainly a highlight for the United Bowhunters of PA, was seeing the Lee Gladfelter Conservation Award go posthumously to our friend Frank Rice. Frank was largely responsible for PA Bowhunters having November opportunities. The award was accepted by Frank’s brother John and John’s wife Noreen. The $1000 stipend associated with the award will go into a fund established at Frank’s death for his children Nathaniel and Theresa.
Excerpts from an e-mail and a letter from Frank’s brother John:
Noreen and I want to thank you and the United Bow Hunters of PA for nominating Frank for the Lee Gladfelter Memorial Award. It’s always difficult for me to talk about Frank, but it is good to know the wonderful friends he made while he was living. I will be sure to share this with my mom and my brother when I see them.
Please express our appreciation to your members for the effort they made on behalf of my brother. I will never forget this day and the people who remembered Frank in this very kind way.
Kindest regards,
John
You know how this goes. There is a long list of people to thank and if I miss someone, I apologize. Thanks to all the UBP members who worked so hard. TREXLER GAME PRESERVE
On May 23, 2007 I attended the Lehigh County Commissioners' Meeting held at the Lehigh County Government Building and gave testimony, as Berks County Representative of the UBP, in support of the opening of what is known as the Trexler Game Preserve in Lehigh County to several proposed forms of outdoor recreation including archery hunting. This would open approximately 471 acres to archery hunting. UBP life member Dick Koch also gave testimony supporting the opening. One of the local anti-hunting activists had sent out emails asking for a show of support against the opening, but no one from their side attended the meeting. Meanwhile, we had 30 or more sportsmen in attendance, with several representatives from other organizations testifying in support of the proposed archery hunt. During my testimony, I told the commissioners that if they needed volunteers to help with some of the labor needed to help make this possible, and also help restore some of the wildlife habitat, that they could count on the UBP to help. So if you are from Lehigh or one of the surrounding counties, please watch for a plea for volunteers for this project. The UBP has the chance to really shine with this project, so please volunteer when the opportunity arises. Email the UBP office if you are interested in helping and Art will forward your email address to me.
Thanks!

Region 4 UpdateThe snow has almost all melted at this point, and the warm weather brought everyone out of the woodwork for the Channel 16 Outdoor Life Expo at the Columbia Mall in Bloomsburg March 22-25, 2007. This show is held every other year and has a huge turnout. We provided a free kid’s 3-d target shoot. Kids were lined up all day every day to shoot at the bear and ram targets. Special thanks go out to Kevin Breisch, Columbia County Rep; Randy Raub, Sullivan County Rep; Ron Zimmerman and his son (sorry, I forgot his name); and to Keith, Cindy and Dakotah Cleaver for helping out with the shoot and the UBP booth. An extra special “high-five" to my daughter, Crystal Riebe (junior member), for being the babysitter and chief gopher for the weekend. Couldn't have done it without you! Also, thanks to Muldoon for opening up for us on Saturday while we were stuck in traffic trying to get to the mall. You just never know where the president is going to show up - and it seems to always be just when he is needed the most. Thanks!
My next project as regional director will be to try to set up some more benefit shoots this year. If you have a club or business that is willing to host a benefit shoot for UBP, please let me know.
Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Rep Wrap Up and Show Reports by Art KeeferHarrisburg: Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show
What a week! We were able to sign up or renew over 300 members at the show this year. We also moved a lot of “clearance” merchandise, as well as some hats and shirts that were newly designed by Larry Stewart. Also new this year for those who signed up for two or three years, were a nice canvas bag with logo and a multi-tool with the UBP info printed on them. About 28 % of the folks signed up for two or three years. We also had two new life members sign up. David West of Elizabethtown and Antonio Polverini of Adamstown decided it was time to make the big commitment. Thanks guys! It was also great to see a lot of my old friends from southeastern PA, and to meet some of the members who I have talked with on the phone over the past year. It was great to see Chad and the Scanlon family.
Special thanks to Bill Lagoda, who housed, fed, transported and put up with me for 10 days. If he ever offers to cook you a meal, don’t pass it up. Thanks to Larry Stewart for having us over for the Super Bowl; the food was great, especially the pie and ice cream. I also want to thank Jen Sager, Casey Stetler, Carl Steinhart, Rick Conley, Sam Nelson, Bob Schwalm, Nancy Carpenter, Andy Blascovich, Bob Miller, Dave Kendall, Linda and Randy Raub for your help and good company. Also gracing us with their presence and helping out, were President Muldoon, Legislative Director Ed Wentzler and member Glenn Kelley from Canada. It was fun working with you all and swapping stories. Thanks to all our business sponsors who donated merchandise for the Winter Rendezvous.
Finally, you should all join me in thanking my wife, Kathy, who stayed at home and took over the office manager’s job of helping John Davidson get ready for the annual Archery Golf outing in Limerick. Kathy had to open the mail and enter the golf registrations into the computer after checking to see if memberships were up to date. She was able to get all the information to John on time to make his event go smoothly. Kathy said to say thanks to all those who showed her their cooperation when she called.Monroeville Expo Mart: Allegheny Sports Show
After only three days off from the Harrisburg show, I was on my way to the Pittsburgh show. I was able to cram a whole week and a half of office work into those three days, getting caught up with all the paperwork and mail. After dealing with a bad snow storm, Life Member Dale Cornetti and I finally made it in to set up our booth at the Expo Mart. In the next four days we were able to sign up or renew 49 members and sell plenty of shirts, hats and patches. I’d like to send out thanks to our new helpers from Allegheny County, Bill Petrosky and his son, Jordan, who made working the booth a lot of fun. Also, thanks to the usual help Jeff Uschak and daughter Katrina along with Mark S. and Mark R. Hogan, plus my wife Kathy, who helps make the long weekend pass by a little better when she’s around. Thanks to the Scanlon family for also coming out and lighting up the booth with their presence. It’s great to see them all smiling. Now it’s back into the office for a week to get ready for Dave Gallardy’s show at JAFFA in Altoona, Eric Aucker at the Icebreaker and the Winter Rendezvous. Dave and Eric both sacrifice their time to work shows while the rest of us are off to the Winter Rendezvous. Thanks Dave and Eric!Icebreaker by County Rep Eric Aucker
The Icebreaker went fairly well, considering only a fraction of the attendees were bowhunters. We sold some shirts and hats and several of the commemorative patches. We handed out a lot of trifolds and literature, but nobody joined on the spot, although most did express an interest in joining. Bottom line was that we got the word out about the UBP. My nephew, Jeremy Finan, was a big help. He helped me set up Friday night and was there most of the day on Saturday and helped tear down.JAFFA
Dave Gallardy was rather under the weather for the JAFFA show, but he managed to trudge through the weekend. While we were honoring him for his past work at the WR event over in Mechanicsburg, Dave signed up or renewed at least 32 members and sold a good number of shirts and hats. It took a while, but Dave assured me he was feeling better by the time I wrote this. Thanks and congratulations on your award for the work you do as the Regional Director.Erie Sport & Travel Expo
Once again my old buddy since the Butler Junior High School football team days, Dale Cornetti, and I headed north through the wind and ice to Erie. For some reason, the UBP missed this show last year and I’m glad we made the worthwhile, although somewhat treacherous, trip back. Mike Perry and John Bevevino had volunteered to run the booth on Saturday (and John volunteered his brother Paul to help them). Dale and I started off Friday afternoon with four members signing up. We also met some “old” UBP members, like Todd Carr, who used to help at the shows and who was glad to see us back. Saturday was the really big day at Erie with Mike, John and Paul “reeling in” 17 more members from the Great Lakes area. Kathy and I returned through some terrible driving conditions on Sunday to get six more members signed up (with Mike’s help again), and to meet more old members like local UBP member Rich Defazio and Riley Foster from Ohio. Rich’s brother Dave signed up for three, years while Riley, one of Mike Lamade’s old hunting buddies, renewed.
I hadn’t been to Erie since I was a little kid, and other than the extreme weather, it seems like a great place to live. Mike reports taking some really nice bucks locally on state game lands, as well as taking a couple wall hangers from both Ohio and New York. I think that going back to Erie and reacquainting with some of our reps and members will go a long way for the UBP in northwestern PA, especially now that they know that they are not all alone “up” there and have some support. With enthusiastic guys like Mike and John helping out, we should be able to grow the organization. Stay tuned for the next big event in the Northwest.2007 York Outdoor and Travel Show by UBP Rep Bob Miller
The 2007 York Outdoor and Travel Show was held February 23 to 25 at the York Expo Center. Despite the small crowd for most of the show and a snow storm on February 25, the UBP signed up eight new members and two renewals. Also, we sold just under $100 worth of merchandise. During the show, Bowhunters Superstore inquired about UBP’s interest in setting up a booth at their 30th Anniversary and Grand Re-Opening. This will be a great opportunity for the UBP. Special thanks go to Karl Myers and Greg Tupper for helping out at this year’s York Outdoor and Travel Show.
UBP REP WRAP UP
March, 2007The Great Outdoor Expo by Bob Forba, Region 3 Director:
The event was held January 5, 6 and 7 at the Riverfront Sports Complex in Scranton. We sold some merchandise and signed up two new members. According to the show people, approximately 9,000 people total attended the three day event. An archery tournament was
held this year and between 60-70 archers competed. Some archers had to be turned away or placed on standby because of limited target space (they are
planning an expansion next year). The show is already scheduled for the
same time next year, and with a combination of more vendors and people
this should develop into a good show for us in the future. Of course, I
want to thank those guys who help me at these events: Perry Hartman, Ed
Rogalski, and Floyd "Rip" Vanwinkle. The Philadelphia Sportsmen’s Show by Buck Appel
The show was small but there were a lot of people who passed through, especially over the weekend. Life Member Wayne Sobetsky ran the booth along with help
from UBP Recording Secretary Bob Kern, Philadelphia County Rep Larry Dial and VP Buck Appel.
The hot topic was the 30 minute extension of the hunting day. Many of the people we spoke to were very satisfied with the work the UBP is doing. We signed up 26 members, some new and some renewals, and sold over $400 worth of UBP merchandise. The 2007 elk patch was one of the favorite items of the show. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to stop by
and chat, and we welcome the new members and everyone who renewed their membership for another year. The Greater Reading Sport Travel & Outdoor Show by Gary Wessner
Hello everyone. I would like to take a little time to fill everyone in on The Greater Reading Sport Travel & Outdoor Show. This show was formerly known as the Fort Washington Show. It ran January 18 - 21. When it was relocated to Reading it was too far for most folks who worked the UBP booth at Fort Washington. Jen Sager asked if I could run a booth and kids balloon shoot at the new show. The booth was okay, but I was a little reluctant due to the fact that I never did one before. After some help and suggestions from Craig Fletcher, I set out to assemble a team and put the whole event together. This had to be done in a very short time span. A fellow UBP member, Rusty Youst (who is also a member of the Reading Archery Club), was able to provide some 3D targets and some staff to help. A total 16 UBP members and 12 Reading Archery Club members worked side by side to make the show a big success. There were a lot of happy kids who went through the balloon shoot, and I was amazed at the number of young girls who shot. Besides providing good positive entertainment for the children, we also gained 43 new members and renewed 24 more. I would like to thank all the people who helped. It is a big list, but every one was a big help: Bob Burk, Todd Gehringer, Dave O’Neil, Mary and Richard Neffue, Robert Schwalm, Joe Brltich, Ernie Kramer, Brian Fidler, Lee Kitson, Todd McCurdy, Jen Sager, Mike and Sharon Maiolie, Cheryl Sanders, Chuck Trate, Walt Srebalus, Eddie Schlegel, Brian Heffner, Helen, Wesley and Olivia Brown, Rusty Youst, Peter Githens, Dawn Bryant, and Debbie Wessner. I thank you all for helping to make this a success. Just wait till next year! The Morningstar Fellowship Sportsmen’s Banquet
Region 1 Director Fran Devlin, Montgomery County Rep Chris Corrado and Vice President Buck Appel set up a UBP table at the Morningstar Fellowship Sportsmen’s Annual Banquet in Berks County, Saturday, January 27, 2007. Over 400 people attended the event which included a home cooked meal of venison meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, rolls and ice cream for desert. We signed up six new members and sold several UBP T-shirts. We would like to thank Morningstar Fellowship for inviting us to this wonderful event.Bloomsburg Early Bird Expo by Region 4 Director Linda Raub
The Bloomsburg Early Bird Expo was held January 25-28, 2007 at the Bloomsburg Fair grounds. UBP had both an information booth and a free kid’s shoot. Saturday and Sunday we had a steady stream of youngsters, ages two through teens, shooting at the bear and ram set up by Kevin Breisch, Columbia County Rep. Special thanks go to the following people for helping out with the show: Kevin Breisch, Dan Reichard, Ron and Darlene Zimmerman, Randy Mowery, Randy Raub, Brock Waldron and Muldoon.
UBP REP WRAP UP

November, 2006Shade Mountain Corporate Games and UBP Shoots
By UBP Snyder County Rep Eric AuckerOn Saturday, August 12, Corporate Games held their archery shot at Shade Mountain Bowmen Inc. in Beavertown. Corporate Games is a competition between several businesses and schools in the Susquehanna Valley. Participants in the 2006 competition were Weis Markets, Midwest Schools, Kuhns Brothers, Yorktowne Cabinets, Merck, CSIU, Wood Mode Cabinetry, Crest Homes, Health America, Professional Building Supply, Evangelical Community Hospital, Magee Reiter, Playworld, Sun Orthopedic, Mifflinburg Bank & Trust, Conagra, and Bucknell University. This year the competition started in April and is scheduled to end in September, and includes bowling, soccer, golf, softball, 5-K run, archery, volleyball, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball. There were eight teams of three shooters at this year’s Corporate Games Archery Shoot with Wood Mode Cabinetry winning the trophy.
It was a great day for a shoot with mild temperature for mid August and low humidity. One of the club officers stayed with me at the clubhouse while the shooters were on the course. He gave me a history education on the club going back to the 1950s. He also informed me that the club has bragging rights to having the only privately owned bridge that crosses Middle Creek.
Although there were only 24 shooters on Saturday, one new UBP member was signed up, several applications were given to those who didn’t want to commit on the spot (or needed what money they had with them to buy gas for the trip home), and some merchandise was sold.
On Sunday, August 13 a UBP benefit shoot was held by the Shade Mountain Bowmen. The weather cooperated again and it was another great day for an archery shoot. There were approximately 100 shooters present. Once again, more UBP membership applications were distributed and some merchandise sold, but unfortunately no new members signed up. My guess is that the reason for this is that most of the shooters were either already members or were members at one time and dropped out.
The bottom line is that the UBP took advantage of the opportunity to make its presence known to two different populations of shooters / hunters in one weekend, and the opportunity exists for some new members entering the ranks.
Sportsmen's Warehouse Hunting Seminar
By UBP Office Manager and County Rep Art KeeferOn Saturday August 26 I set up a table at Sportsmen's Warehouse on Mt. Nebo Road just outside of Pittsburgh where they were hosting a hunting seminar for the weekend. I have to thank Fred Eichler, who was a guest speaker, who got us invited to join the event. Events like this really help get the word out. While we were there, Kathy and I signed up two new members and sold a couple hats and shirts. One of the other guests, who was there to display his trophy Pennsylvania elk, was Todd Yoder of Gilbertsville, PA. If you remember back to the first year Pennsylvania held an elk season, Todd was the guy who shot the first PA elk in modern times with the bow and arrow. This elk grossed 348 5/8 P & Y and now scores 319 5/8. Todd's elk is still the official state record. After talking with Todd about bow hunting in general that morning, Todd became a new member and went home with a new hat and shirt. One of our new members from the week before, Kevin Hardt (who works at Sportsmen's Warehouse), was there wearing his new UBP mossy oak camo hat. It was nice to hear that Kevin has met many other members at the store (while wearing his hat) since he has joined. So, wear that UBP hat or shirt whenever you can, its good advertising for us.
Montgomery County Field Days by County Rep Chris Corrado
Souderton - Harleysville Game, Fish, and Forestry AssociationOn August 26, 204 kids, age 9-15, participated in eight events that included fishing, canoeing, fun run, rifle, black-powder, trapping, archery and trap shooting. Every child got a bag of goodies that included a t-shirt, disposable camera and other goodies, plus we fed all of the kids, volunteers and parents. We cooked 1100 hotdogs and boxed 550 lunches. Lunch time demos included the SWAT team and other vendors, including UBP Vice President Buck Appel manning the UBP table.
Hemlock Field Archers Shoot (Lebanon County)
By UBP Board of Director Jen SagerHemlock Field Archers held a UBP shoot on July 22 and 23. Rick Conley, Tim Wahl and Jen Sager shared UBP booth duties over the weekend, as Hemlock Field Archers hosted a total of 64 shooters. The two-day UBP 50/50 raffle was won by Sam Nelson and Preston Black. A total of $84 in merchandise and $35 in 50/50 proceeds was earned. Hemlock Field Archers made a generous donation of $225 to the UBP. This club’s kitchen crew sure does know how to make a egg, bacon and cheese sandwich! Please be on the lookout for more information about Hemlock Field Archers as they will host the 2007 UBP Annual Meeting.
The First Annual Valley YHEC / UBP Joint Benefit
By UBP Region 4 Director Linda RaubThe event was held on Saturday and Sunday August 26 and 27. Although the rain kept the number of participants down, it did not dampen the spirits of those in attendance. Valley YHEC of Rome, PA is now a sponsoring organization for the UBP, as we raised well over the amount needed for them to become a sponsor. Approximately 60 people shot either one or two of the 30-target courses. The first course was set in the hillside around the club, with many realistic woodland shots being presented. The second course was set up on the level ground, providing those who cannot climb the hills a chance to practice (including one wheelchair bound archer who became a new member of the UBP). We also had two novelty shoots. The first was a floating ping-pong ball shoot, and the second was an Iron Pig (thanks to Life Member Tim Hart, owner of Lakeview Archery, for the novelty shoots and for donating some of the targets used). The Valley YHEC is a young organization, looking to the future and the advancement of the next generation. They are happy to work with us to promote bowhunting to tomorrow’s hunters.
Next year's shoot is already planned for the last weekend before Labor Day. This is a shoot that everyone should mark on their calendars! The courses are great (and they hope to expand to three courses for next year), the food is delicious, and the club members are a great bunch of guys and gals who are here "for the kids." We are very lucky to have them as a sponsoring organization.
This shoot was planned by Bradford County Rep Kevin Gibbs and the Sullivan County Reps Linda and Randy Raub.
Special thanks to Muldoon (even though he missed his new granddaughter being born), and to Potter County Rep Harry Boyer for coming out Saturday to help us out.Sullivan County: Report by UBP Region 4 Director Linda Raub
A HUGE thanks to everyone who came out and supported the 50th Bow Hunter's Festival in Forksville on September 15, 16, and 17. This was one of the biggest shows of the year and a success for both the UBP and the Bow Fest. The crowd on Saturday was larger than there has been in the past five years; and, except for a little rain on Friday and Saturday morning, the weather turned out to be fantastic!
The UBP booth sold almost $500 in merchandise, and we had 14 new memberships (including one junior), and 13 renewals. The phrase that seemed to get a lot of people interested was, "We need your voice and your opinion." Special thanks to all those who came out to help including: Harry Boyer (Potter County), Kevin Breisch (Columbia County), John Weeks (Lycoming County), and to Muldoon and Ed for putting in an appearance on Saturday afternoon. If I missed anyone, I'm sorry - I met so many new faces, it was hard to remember who everybody was! Thanks to everyone.
We look forward to another great festival in 2007.Also On Sunday, September 24, Randy Raub, Sullivan County Rep, Linda Raub, Region 4 Director, and their daughter, Crystal, participated in the UBP Adopt-A-Highway program. They picked up a 2.4 mile stretch of Route 154 between Forksville and World's End State Park. Five bags of garbage were removed from this location - not too bad, considering that this stretch of road hosted the Sullivan County Fair and the Pennsylvania Bowhunters Festival, all within the last month.

Northeast Sports Expo, Wachovia Arena Wilkes-Barre Pa
By Bob Forba UBP Region 3 Director. We all had a great time at this first ever event in the NE held on September 15 through 17 and we hope it happens again next year. On Sunday our very own Pike County Rep. Perry Hartman tried to tame the mechanical bull, but soon found out that when you mess with the bull, you get the horn…the bull won.
Saturday morning we had a surprise visit from UBP president Wes Waldron, aka Muldoon, and UBP legislative director Ed Wentzler. Special thanks to everyone who helped make this show successful. Perry Hartman, Bob Kern, Mike Windus, "Rip" Vanwinkle, "Ripper" Zach Vanwinkle, and Matthew Forba. Also thanks to Ed Rogalski for the use of the booth and bear skin.
The following are the figures:
10 new members (9 senior, 1 junior)
$337.00 total revenue
187 total kids run thru the archery rangeSouderton - Harleysville Game, Fish, and Forestry Association UBP Benefit Shoot by UBP Montgomery County Rep Chris Corrado
We were very pleased by the turn out for a United Bowhunters of Pennsylvania Benefit Shoot on Sunday, September 24. Nearly 140 archers turned out for the forty target shoot to put the finishing touches on their skills before Pennsylvania’s opening day. The weather was pleasant and the varied terrain of the club provided not only interesting shooting but also a good hike.
With the motto of “Support the UBP”, raffles took center stage throughout the day, and great prizes made it hard not to join in. East Coast Taxidermy and Covelin’s Taxidermy each provided $500 gift certificates for whitetail head mounts and a treestand, among other prizes, was also raffled off. Shooters could double their raffle tickets at the novelty shoot. In addition, Team Extreme provided their exciting hunting DVD as a prize, and other door prizes were donated by Neebe Archery and Chris Corrado.
Adding to the event’s atmosphere were various vendors and an outfitter from Wyoming. Along with the previously mentioned taxidermists and vendors, were Mermon’s Taxidermy, Brush Busters Outfitting, Jab’s Custom Arrows, Courtney Archery, and Dream Catcher Archery.
UBP Vice President, Buck Appel ran the UBP table and reported good sales of merchandise and, even with the large number of UBP members attending, managed to sign up a few new members.
With all proceeds, SHGFFA brought in over $1500 for the UBP and are already planning a bigger event for next year. !!!! SAVE THE DAY AND MARK YOU’RE CALENDERS!!!! It promises to be even bigger and better with more vendors, raffles and great prizes! It will once again be on the Sunday before the PA archery opener so plan on being there to get in on all of the excitement. Watch for the details in the UBP newsletter.
The club would like to thank all of the volunteers, vendors and donors for their contributions and especially UBP Region 1 Director, Fran Devlin, County Reps Mike Ianetta and Chris Corrado, and UBP members Dan Smoker, Mike Parente, Carl Cutrone, Bob Yeakel, and new member Rob Gemi for helping to put this event together.
September, 2006Lower Providence Rod and Gun club hosted the Region 1 Shindig this year, and we had a good turnout with lots of really good food and door prizes for everyone. Tom Walker gave a great talk on his elk hunting adventures and brought along many sets of very large elk antlers.
Tom’s talk was educational, entertaining and had some very funny stories.Representing the United Bowhunters of PA were Office Manager Art Keefer (who drove all the way down from Sommerset County with his wife Kathy to attend), Recording Secretary Bob Kern and his wife Linda, and Vice President Buck Appel and his wife Pat (the newsletter editor). Art, Bob and Buck spoke on the advantages of becoming a member of the UBP. This was followed up by a question and answer session.
We would like to thank Archery Chairman John Cappeletti, Mike Pietrzkowski, Tom Walker,
and Sheralee Panzano and everyone who volunteered to make the Region 1 Shindig a big success. We are looking forward to doing this again in the future.Burnt Ridge First Annual UBP Benefit Shoot
By Art Keefer
Armstrong County Rep.A little bit of mid-morning Armstrong County rain didn’t stop 85 shooters from attending Burnt Ridge Bow and Gun Club’s First Annual UBP 3-D Benefit Shoot on June 4, 2006. The club is located just outside of Cowansville near West Kittaning. We had five new members sign up plus a renewal. We also sold some hats and shirts, some of them to guys who just wanted to have a dry shirt to wear home.
At the end of the day we had the club randomly draw a score card and the winner was Dave Shaul of Worthington. Dave was the winner of a free UBP membership which we donated to the event. Kathy helped out again at our display table which was well received by all the shooters. Thanks to all the folks who run the sign up table and kitchen. Looking forward to 2007!The Fourth Annual UBP Benefit Shoot was held on July 30th 2006. I never thought a rainy start would turn into a great day as it did on this Sunday 3-D shoot, great turn out and lots of good people. I would like to first thank the Jeff's, Doug, Dan and the other members of the Gallitzin Sportsmen Club for all the hard work it takes to put one of these on. They did a great job on the 3-D course and food. One thing to point out about the course is that the walking is not that bad. For those of us who can't take the rough walking, this is the course you would want to try. And again I would like to thank the Gallitzin Sportsmen Club

Rep Wrap UP- Buck AppelOnce again, the UBP was very active in both community and outdoor events. We could not do this without the help of many people. The UBP board and officers would like to thank everyone who has given their time to represent the UBP and bowhunting. For anyone who is considering a position as a county rep or regional director, please contact the UBP. We would love to have you come aboard!
Bucks County Fish and Game UBP Benefit Shoot
A special Thanks to Region Director Mike Bean for coordinating the Bucks County UBP Benefit
Shoot on May 7. Mike had help from Bucks County Reps Bill Volmerding, Ray Majetik, and Philadelphia County Rep Larry Dial. Region 1 does a fantastic job with all the events throughout the year.UBP at MBC Sportsmen’s Dinner-Pike County
Perry Hartman, Pike County RepOn April 1, 2006, UBP Recording Secretary and Region 1 member Bob Kern and his wife Linda traveled to Pike County (where they have a cabin) to represent the UBP at the Milford Bible Church Sportsmen’s Dinner. Pike County Rep. Perry Hartmann managed to slip away from his duties as MBC Sportsmen’s Dinner Committee Member to sit at the UBP booth for a short time.
The sportsmen’s dinner is an annual event that draws over 500 sportsmen from N.Y., N.J. and PA. It includes a 3-D Archery shoot and fly fishing demo on the church grounds, a delicious game dinner, main speaker and workshops/demonstrations. One of the unique features of this event is the elaborate decorations including 100 big game mounts on loan from church members and friends, displayed in the lobby, and two large murals (one a camp scene and one a trout stream) in the gym (where the dinner is served) framed by 20 foot live pine trees and a live trout pond to give it a 3-D effect.
Bob and Linda Kern talked to nearly 100 people, handed out 70 information packets (with applications) and gave out ten separate membership applications. Guidelines of the event prohibited any sale of merchandise or memberships on site. But it was a good opportunity to explain and showcase the goals, accomplishments and functions of the UBP. Considering many of the attendees were from N.Y. or N.J., the response was very good. Many of the PA residents had heard of us, but were not familiar with exactly what we do/have done. And since membership is fairly low in Pike County compared to other areas of the state, this was a great opportunity to “enlighten” the local community. We would like to thank Bob and Linda for taking the time to come up to Pike County and represent the UBP so well! Without their help, it would not have been possible to reach so many local (Pike County) residents.Morning Star Fellowship "Ultimate Hunt" Wild Game Dinner
Montgomery County Rep Chris CorradoMontgomery County Rep and Life Member Fran Devlin and Life Member Chris
Corrado attended the Morning Star Fellowship "Ultimate Hunt" Wild Game Dinner on
Saturday, April 22 in Bechtelsville. Both the food and hunting tales flowed freely
and in great quantities throughout the evening. The guest speaker was noted
deer expert Charles Alsheimer and his presentation was excellent. The UBP
table garnered quite a bit of attention, and sales of shirts, hats and
memberships was brisk. We have already been invited back for next year's
event.The Great Outdoor Expo
Bob Forba, Region III DirectorEd Rogalski, along with help from Clint Gebert, Brad Millard, Bob Forba and Matthew Forba,
worked the Great Outdoor Expo at the Riverfront Sports Complex representing the UBP on March 30 and 31and April 1 and 2. Over $105 in UBP merchandise was sold and seven new members were signed up along with one renewal. The booth, as you will see, was designed by
Ed and was one of the best looking UBP booths I have seen in a long time.
Thanks to all who gave their time to host this event.UBP Adopt-A Highway
Pat GonsmanWe had a road clean-up east of Hollidaysburg on Rt. 22. We did it in three evenings rather than a Saturday. Volunteers included Don Martin (who heads up the effort), Rex Fahr (Blair County Rep.), Chuck Griener, Bob Green, Daniel Green, Ty Ivory, Jeff Davis, Gonsman, and Bob Sollenburger (who is not a bowhunter but wanted to help out). We gotter done!
Boy Scouts of America Mini Jamboree at Kutztown University
County Rep Dale HajasThe Boy Scouts of America hosted a mini-jamboree at Kutztown University the weekend of May 19 for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venture Scouts (co-ed). County Rep Dale Hajas stepped up and represented the United Bowhunters of PA, after Lehigh County Rep Don Romig moved to Iowa due to a job change. Scouts in attendance were from the following counties: Berks, Schuylkill, Northampton, Lehigh, Monroe, Carbon, and Luzerne.
Whenever the UBP is in a pinch and needs someone on short notice, Dale can always be counted on if at all possible. The Board of Directors and Officers would like to thank Dale for coming to the rescue. In Dale’s own words:“5,500 Kids AND many Parents……..ONE DAY!
Don Romig got us involved in this and then had to move to IOWA because of his job change. There are quite a few of these Scout get-togethers across the state each year. I filled in for Don and it was pretty incredible to say the least! BTW I just happened to move NEXT to a Scout executive when I and MJ bought our house.Herein lies a NEW path! Another place to 'hunt' so to speak. Scouts DO have an archery merit badge, and you’re reading the typing prowess of one merit badge counselor. The Scout ground is fertile. It NEEDS seed and we can plant it!
This event had kids shooting traditional bows, so the talk was 'bent' to traditional and primitive archery, how bows are made, how inexpensive archery can be (low investment, high return), and the myriad of ways to enjoy archery (3D, target shooting, stump shooting etc). BTW- by NO means were compound bows and modern archery equipment EXCLUDED, but rather encouraged.
Frankly, I had interest from many parents about the UBP. More than ANY other type of event I've been a part of. And honestly, I never had to push the United Bowhunters of PA…just archery. I'm terrible at the 'Ben Franklin' style of promotion; however, one need not be when it relates to this sport. Hunting rarely and quite surprisingly only came up a few times. The scout's life is family life and we were part of that life on Saturday, and it was a good fit!“
May, 2006Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show by Jen Sager This years Harrisburg Show ran from Saturday, February 4 to 12, 2006. The anchor man was Lancaster County’s Casey Stettler. Casey and Sherri Stettler organized and executed the strategy for this year’s UBP booth. Complete booth coverage and supreme organization of all details of the show was apparent. As noticed at the last several years of this show, attendance was down, but the UBP spirit ran high. UBP members were found renewing their memberships and purchasing UBP merchandise. New members were also informed of the UBP efforts and welcomed to the largest bowhunting organization in the Commonwealth. A total of 153 new and renewal memberships were garnered, as was over $1500 in merchandise sales. Sales of cruise raffle tickets ran high, over $1000 in ticket sales was realized. Many thanks to all of the Harrisburg Show volunteers! The UBP cannot do this show without them. A special “Thank You” to the following for volunteering their time to work the show: Casey Stetler, Randy Raub, Rich Andeson, Jim Miller, Sherri Stettler, Linda Raub, Andy Blascovich, Jen Sager, Carl Steinhart, Rick Conley, Troy Wallace, Bill Lagoda, Sam Nelson, Michael Kunkle, Art Keefer, Bob Schwalm, Tim Wahl, Dale Cornetti, Don Romig, and David Kendall.
2006 Golf Shoot by Buck Appel Montgomery County Rep John Davidson pulled off another great golf shoot for 2006. With a major snow storm forecasted the day of the event, the day turned out to be beautiful with mild temperatures and low wind. One hundred thirty shooters participated and everyone seemed to have really enjoyed themselves. Linfield National Golf Course again hosted the event and did a wonderful job in providing great hospitality, good food and support. A special Thanks to French Creek Outfitters for donating a tree stand as a raffle item. The UBP would like to thank everyone who helped make the 2006 golf shoot the best one yet. Thanks to Bob Kern, the UBP recording secretary, for helping with the show, and also Craig Fletcher who did a tremendous job of coordinating and transporting the targets up to the Linfield Golf Course. See article on page 7 for more details.
Allegheny Show by Art Keefer Overall attendance appeared to be down compared to previous years. It only looked crowded a little on Saturday and Sunday in front of our booth. We totaled 58 members (24 renewals and 22 new members) which were down over a dozen from last year. We only gave out the license plate (instead of the t-shirts) to new members this year, so considering that all shows are down, I don't really know if that had any bearing. We sold 24 patches, 14 assorted shirts, 8 hats, 13 other merchandise items, and one cruise raffle ticket. Total monies collected in cash, checks and credit card charges were $1769.00. Only one member asked me, “What do I get if I renew?” He renewed anyway. Several members said they would like to see us selling the short billed bowhunters cap like we did a few years ago. A few life members stated they would like to see some Life Member merchandise like the black shirts with “Team UBP for Life” logo on the back. We gave out a large quantity of the tri-fold brochures. I also printed out and distributed lots of two sided printouts of what the UBP does. Just as a note, I have only counted one tri-fold coming in from the Fort Washington show and one from the Harrisburg show so far. We should consider how effective this tool is at the next face to face meeting. Finally, I spoke with two potential contributors who are thinking of working with us in the future (Timber Tall Tree Stands and Workingman’s Guide Service of Ohio). Also, North View Lodge wants to contribute a bear hunt in bow season again next year if our auction goes well for us. I would like to thank the following people who helped make this happen: Paul West, Jeff Uschak, Gary Groom, Katrina Uschak, Mark Hogan, Kathy Keefer, Mark Hogan, and Art Keefer.
Pennsylvania Outdoor Times Hunting & Fishing Show by Pat Gonsman The second annual Pennsylvania Outdoor Times Hunting & Fishing Show was held in Blair County and hosted 8,000 people at the show. Show traffic seemed a little slow. We sold 10 memberships and some merchandise. We enjoyed it and got reacquainted. I had help from the following: Dan Dangel, Bob Green, Ty Ivory, Dan Green, Dave Johnsonbaugh, Rex Fahr (Blair Co. Rep.), Steve Ocker, Jason Gonsman (Pat’s son), Jeff Davis, and Don Martin. Jaffa Sports Show 2006 by Dave Gallardy, Region 8 Director I would like to thank all of the wonderful UBP folks who stopped by the booth to show support and to say hello. All I have to say is “Preserving the Tradition” does ring a bell with many from Blair and the surrounding counties. It was one of the best and the most fun I ever had at a show. As for the young man who received the 2002 UBP patch off my shirt…ENJOY! To the life member who donated a membership, Cody Zimmerman says thank you. This young man impressed Bob and I so much with his knowledge of bowhunting and love for the sport. At the young age of 14, he will go far in the bowhunting world. I would also like to thank the workers Mike Foust (UBP Past President), Pat Gonsman (Region 9 Director), Bob Buterbaugh (Cambria County Rep.), and my son Aaron for all the help at the booth. In addition, special thanks for all those new members who signed up and those who renewed.
Adopt-A-Highway Litter Pick-Up by Kevin Gibbs, Bradford County Rep. I’d like to express my thanks to the Bradford County UBP members who were able to make it to our Adopt-A-Highway litter pick-up on March 25. A fresh coating of snow from Mother Nature that morning somewhat hampered the efforts of Tim Hart, Sheridan Camp, Jed McClintic and myself, but we were still able to have a good time while picking up a significant amount of litter and trash. Once again - THANK YOU! For those members who would like to lend a helping hand next time, we’ll be picking up litter along our two mile stretch of Route 6 again on June 3. We’ll meet at Mark’s Valley View Restaurant and Motel, located between Wyalusing and Laceyville, at 9 a.m. to start. But if you’d like to have a cup of coffee or some breakfast before we get started, you’ll probably find a few of us in the dining area of Mark’s anytime between 8 and 9 a.m. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 265-3661, or better yet whip me an email at gibber@epix.net.
March, 2006Region 8 - Cambria County Rep Dave Gallardy: Adopt a Highway! Dave would like to announce a spring road cleanup, Beulah Road from the Nanty Glo line to Dave’s Auto. Volunteers will meet at the CoGos on Rt. 22 in Ebensburg on Sunday, April 30th at 8.30 am. Contact Dave Gallardy (814)472-7613 or email ccuotdoors@msn.com with UBP in subject line.
Sullivan County A special thanks to Linda and Randy Raub, our newest Sullivan County Reps, for their work in getting out to their local archery shops and clubs and replacing the old membership application forms with updated ones. Linda and Randy have jumped in with both feet to help out when and where they can. We applaud their efforts.
Bloomsburg Early Bird Expo Kevin Brieisch reports a successful Show this year at Bloomsburg with ten new members including one three year membership and two renewals. Twenty Eight UBP patches were sold, by far the most of any show of the season. Thanks to Ron and Don Zimmerman, Randy and Linda Raub and non-members Vince Komar and Jeff Vought for helping Kevin Breisch and Wes Waldron with the show.
The Greater Philadelphia Sport and Travel Show Report The turn out we get for the Fort Washington show never seems to amaze me. Wapiti Archers, along with the UBP, host the Fort Washington show, one of our biggest shows of the season. The Fort Washington show is also known as the Greater Philadelphia Sport and Travel show, but we like to call it the Fort Washington show as it was known in years past. Clover Leaf , Souderton-Harleysville and Del-Val Archery Clubs showed up on Saturday, the busiest day, with a large work force. Without them, I don’t know how we would have done it. They helped us with the hundreds and hundreds of kids shooting the UBP balloon shoot and the 3D range. As many of you might not realize, trying to teach kids from the age of two up can be grueling after several hours kneeling on concrete, but it’s worth it to see the smiles on kid’s faces when they finally pop a balloon. This show is by no means a small event. It took twenty or thirty people from Wapiti and the UBP to set up. Starting on the Sunday prior to the event, a meeting was held at Wapiti to coordinate the work detail and unload the big shed that holds all of the 3D targets and foam blocks for the show. On Tuesday night a large contingent showed up and starting building the set. It reminds you of a movie set being built for a stage show, but on a much larger scale. Real Christmas trees are used as a back drop, and wood chips on the floor give the 3D targets a more realistic look and feel. There are thirty or more 3D targets set up from a large buffalo to a ground hog. The Turbo-Hog is another specialty that consists of a 3D hog on a guide wire, and when released travels horizontally across the floor while shooters test their skills on a moving target. The moving bear target is always a favorite. If a shooter hits the moving bear in the vitals, he gets to put his ticket in a raffle bucket. At the end of the show, a ticket is drawn and someone wins a Mathews bow. While some of the work party is helping kids and others are helping adults shoot (many for the first time), others man the UBP sign-up table trying to educate the public about the benefits of joining the UBP. Usually we put our best talkers on this detail, but we switch back and forth during the day on different events. It can be very frustrating when you explain to people the benefits of supporting their state bowhunting organization and everything that the UBP has done over the years, and they look at you with glazed over eyes and say, “I’m not interested.” Ouch! But on the other hand, you get to meet many people who thank you for all the efforts of the UBP, and that makes you realize it’s all worth it. I wish there was a way to put every person’s name and picture who helped at this show in this article. I know the satisfaction they feel in helping this event to be very successful is reward enough.
A big UBP “Thank You” to the following people who worked before, during or after the show. We would also like to thank “High Country” for donating a kid’s bow for the 2006 Winter Rendezvous. We also want to thank Whitetails Unlimited for a large donation to the UBP. This is the second donation to the UBP by Whitetails Unlimited this year. With a list this size, somebody is bound to be left out. If you were there and we missed your name, we apologize. Also, if we misspelled your name, we apologize. (I had to type the names off a hand written note.) Greater Philadelphia Sport and Travel Show RAFFLE WINNERS! 3D Moving Bear (Mathews Bow) Luke McLaughlan Turbo-Hog (Tree Stand) Adam Northup Turkey Shoot (Ground Blind) J. McMahon
January, 2006News from Nothampton County Rep Jim Adams Jim Adams, has reported that they are in the third year of “Hunters Sharing the Harvest” program, and wanted to let everyone know that they can take their harvested deer to Nello’s Specialty Meats in Nazareth, PA. For a donation call Nello at 610-759-0628 After the presentation by Jim Adams to the Bangor Area School Board, Jim has reported that he has received notification that Bangor is making the National Archery in the Schools Program part of their physical education classes starting with high school. As money comes in, the program will be moved to the middle schools and possibly the elementary schools. The Northampton County Federation of Sportsman area donated $1000, but we still need more donations to move this program to all children in the school’s districts by next year.
2005 UBP Benefit Shoot by Mark R. Hogan, Lawrence County Rep. We had great weather for the archery shoot on Sunday, September 11 at Possum Hollow Sportsman’s Club. Mary Anne helped out at the booth and together we sold one decal, one mug, one hat, and four shirts. We signed up four new members and 34 shooters for a total of $476. Each shooter took aim at 30 targets, most of which were Rineharts. Tom Kirpatrick, Charlie Kahne, and I shot a round together. Have you ever shot at a cobra before? We did. Back at the club, a ping-pong ball shoot challenged your skills and a 50/50 raffle checked your luck. Between rounds, attendees could enjoy ice cold refreshments and hot food while watching the Steelers beat the Titans 34-7. To see more of Cindy Bennett’s photos from the shoot or to check on future shoots go to: www.possumhollowsportsmansclub.com Special thanks to Bill [Bull] Nelson and everyone else who helped out. Thanks for supporting the UBP.
Decker’s Archery and Chili Cook-off Susquehanna County Rep. Bob Forba reports that the Decker’s Archery and Chili Cook-off was not quite up to expectations but, all who attended had a great time. Even though attendance was light, the weather was beautiful. This may have contributed to low turn out since bear season was just a few days away. Next year we may change the schedule to better accommodate archers. There were four new members signed up and after expenses, a total of $690 was realized. We are already planning ideas for next year, and promise that this will become bigger and better every year. The United Bowhunters of PA doesn’t currently have a strong presence in the Northeast, so it was great to just get up in that area and meet some people. We would like to thank Jerry Decker for being such a gracious host. We would also like to thank the following people that stepped up and contributed their time: Jerry Decker (Owner and Proprietor of Decker’s Bow’s and More), Bob Forba (United Bowhunters of PA, Susquehanna County Rep), Matthew Forba, Carl Mozeleski, Joe McMahon, Craig Fletcher, Ed Rogalski, Rip Vanwinkle II, RipVanwinkle III, and Zach Vanwinkle.
