Hunters Sharing The Harvest
The season is fast approaching and the UBP wants to remind all of you of Hunters Sharing the Harvest. Donated venison is ground and given to area food banks.
The program is funded through corporate donations, hunters, PGC, The UBP and others. All you have to do, is take your field dressed animal to one of the attached participating shops.
How about taking one in this year to help feed the hungry?
Please share this information with your fellow hunters.
The UBP has been a long time sponsor of HSH, starting when it was known as PRUA (People for the Responsible Use of Animals). You may remember Ken Brandt, founder of PRUA and our lobbyist in Harrisburg for several years. It was his dream then, and a reality now, that hunters have a place to take their surplus venison. The HSH slogan is, “Don’t waste it!” Your donation can feed up to 200 people.

This is how it works. It is a good idea to locate and contact a butcher shop in your area that is participating in the program before you go out into the woods. You can find these processors by visiting the HSH web site or by calling the toll free number 866-474-2141. The web site is www.sharedeer.org. Click on resources and then click on Participating Processors at the top of this page. Once you have located and contacted a processor, you simply take your field dressed deer to that shop and pay a $15 processing fee. It’s that simple.
The future goal of HSH is to secure enough funding that hunters will not need to contribute to processing fees. Donating the deer should be enough, and it will be eventually. Right now HSH depends on contributions from organizations and individuals to cover the expenses of processing and distribution of venison to local food banks. The UBP has been a long standing contributor of funds and man power. If you can spare a buck for the pot, please fill out the form below and send it in. Your contribution is tax deductible. Every dollar donated provides up to four meals for the hungry. That is how efficient this program is. Almost all of the HSH team are volunteers. Please consider making a contribution. Big or small, every contribution counts.
